Would This Be Considered a DATE?

There is a coworker who I like and he's always very nice to me and we talk a lot. One day, after work, he gave me a ride home. On the way, he stopped for a sandwich twice and left me in the parked car. When he came back, he said, "Every time I take you out, there's always a detour." (He never took me out so that's weird that he said that.) Then he said he'd buy me something to eat and stopped at a restaurant. It was a dim restaurant with candles and slow music too. We just ate in silence and he kept smiling even though we talked a little. Then I insisted I pay but he seemed annoyed by that and paid the bill himself. Anyway, I thought he liked me but I've never been on a date with anyone before so I don't know how to see this. Would it really be considered a date or no?
