Is Marfa, Alpine, or Marathon worth a road trip detour?

I'm driving from LA to Florida via the I-10. Is the detour to one of these towns worth the extra time or should I just shack up at a motel in Fort Stockton. I'm traveling with a dog and my girlfriend.
